Microsoft
Microsoft Studios, the internal media production and archive group for Microsoft Corporation, manages a huge archive, consisting of over a million digital media assets, with 80,000 new items materializing each month. With a twenty percent annual increase in demand for video content from its archive, Microsoft Studios needed to find a system capable of automating the cataloging, search and retrieval of video assets from an online database.
With Virage automating their video content management, Microsoft Studios were able to immediately justify their investment and their operation became much more productive. Microsoft archivists and staff uses the Virage platform to automate both the indexing and the encoding of their video, and to browse and manage the video database at their desktops. Now, archivists can quickly locate relevant clips from their desktops. The ability to search on keywords extracted from the audio, such as product names and topics, has further reduced production expenses by eliminating the need for verbatim transcription.
